McSherry Auction Fraud

In April 2013 I saw an ad for a Farm Clearance in Manitoba and decided it would be an excellent chance to buy a bunch of Wrought Iron and Cast Iron fencing and a nice big painted tin Sign.

I booked a flight for the auction which was to be on May 4th in Lorette Manitoba, for the Burak family.

A week before the auction it was cancelled due to the weather......major snow on the ground and flooding. I phoned Mr. Burak senior to get the 411 and he told me the snow on the ground in town was 2 foot deep....at the farm it was 4 foot!......No chance for the auction so it was postponed till June 29th.

While we chatted I asked about the two pallets of fencing and was told some of the items in the McSherry website photos were not going to be in the auction and he had told the McSherry people on multiple occasions that the photos should be taken off the website. One of the relatives had spoken for them.

Before re-booking my flight I phoned McSherry Auction services for clarification......they assured me Everything Pictured on the Website was indeed for sale at the auction.

I arranged a shipping company and got a local hauler on standby in case I actually won the stuff I was going for.

So...booked, flight over....June 28th I drove to the site to get my bearings and have a look at the offerings in person......to say I was not amused would be an understatement......Mr Burak Senior and one of the sons were on site and soon told me both the pallets of fencing I had come to buy were NOT in the auction!

That lying McSherry had been told multiple times to delete the photos of the things the family were keeping and had kept them on the webpage as a draw.....and, when I asked to see the painted tin sign.....Mr Burak senior told me McSherry had paid him top dollar for it.....and taken it off the farm...$40!
The son was pissed, I was almost at exploding level and the elder Burak was apologetic............but there was nothing he could do at that point.

So......I spent about $1500 going to an auction that I never actually attended on sale day.....what did I get for my troubles? Two Woodticks.

I submitted a complaint to the BBB in Winnipeg...they passed it along to McSherry and never got any response. I submitted two complaints to the Manitoba Auctioneer Association.......same response..........Nothing. When I did some research into the MAA site... I found the address is in Stonewall Manitoba.....oddly enough the same address as the McSherry Auction Service.............coincidence? I doubt it...............

Here are some of the auction photos from the McSherry site.

Here's the tin sign he paid 'Top Dollar' for..............

Looks like Sweet Cap to me..................

Here's the fencing I spent $1500+ to fly and LOOK AT!

The moral of this story is.....Don't, Ever, Believe ANYTHING that ANYONE at McSherry Auction Services of Stonewall Manitoba shows you...or Tells You.
