Pilgrim & Co. Ale

How this early Pilgrim Graphite Pontiled Ale bottle got to Victoria B.C.....is pure speculation.

I like to think the owner came overland...and drank this when he actually made it to the coast...one hell of a feat in the mid 1850's.

   Pilgrim & Co. / Superior Ale / Hamilton C.W. - Circa 1855.

This bottle was dug in the early 1968...Lower Fort St...and when it was made...there wasn't much in Victoria except the Fort..this is pre-Gold Rush. Not much going on.
A census taken in 1855 showed 200 non-natives living in Fort Victoria and 350 on nearby Farms.

It languished in a box till last weekend..(May 29/17).
